This undated WJMA control room picture is probably from the early 1980s. Compared to the following control room photos there are some differences.
The equipment arrangement is different. A HeathKit weatherstation is on the left, the cart machine is on top of the control board and there is a different microphone. In this picture it is a Sennheiser 421 mic .
At the bottom of the equipment rack, under the two Revox A77 reel-to-reel tape decks, are two FM receivers. The were used to pick up sports broadcasts from Washington and Charlottesville stations prior to the establishment of the Virginia News and Sports networks in the late 1970s. The receivers were also used to gather high school football scores on Friday nights.
