In the Fall of 1960 Senator Lyndon Johnson of Texas was running for Vice President on the Democratic ticket with Senator John Kennedy of Massachusetts. Johnson paid a campaign visit to Orange. There's an Orange Review picture of him with local Democratic Party officials at the President Madison Hotel in the newspaper achives.
Teresa Verling Carson prepared scripts for WJMA announcers about the visit. Afterward she sent copies to Johnson's office. She soon received this unsolicited and a surprise reply.
