Thelma Gibson Lutz of Orange, VA, said she got this letter opener as a promotional item when WJMA was doing a sidewalk remote in front of Stephen and Durrer Jewelers on Main Street in Orange in 1949 or 1950. WJMA General Manager Art Livick was doing the remote. She said he was there every Friday morning.
Art Livick was WJMA's first General Manager from before the original sign on September 10, 1949 until he resigned in February 1952 to work for Roland Hill as a representative of the Equitable Life Insurance Society of the United States.
